ABOUT ME

Dr. Aline Arouca, Ph.D.

Functional Clinical Nutritionist and Sports Dietitian

Since I was adolescent, I have been a sports enthusiast and concerned about having a healthy lifestyle. As soon as I graduated in Nutrition, I established a private practice, providing tailored programs to athletes and other patients. Since 2000, I helped my clients find their optimal wellness through developing a deeper understanding of their habits and lifestyle choices.

Due to my passion for research, I have never stopped to invest time and financial resources for my professional development. I have specialization (certification) in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Biochemistry, Sports Nutrition, and Clinical Functional Nutrition. In 2012, I defended the Masters in Functional and Molecular Biology at UNICAMP, in Campinas, Brazil. From 2015 to 2021, I devoted myself exclusively to my Ph.D. in Public Health and to the publication of original scientific articles at the University of Gent, Belgium. At the end of 2021, I became a Doctor of Health Sciences.

I am very interested in the relationship between lifestyle (diet, physical activity, sedentary behaviour, sleep), health, and disease. I believe that disease can occur in people who are genetically predisposed and have unhealthy lifestyle and food choices, or eat foods that are not well tolerated by the body, which can trigger an inflammatory response and/or lead to an unwanted phenotype. My Ph.D. was about the power of a healthy diet, showing that a great adherence to the Mediterranean diet helped reducing inflammation in European adolescents. I am involved in the HELENA study, a project that involved 9 European countries, including Belgium.

I enjoy studying and learning, and will appreciate taking care of your case considering your biochemical individuality, your lifestyle, your preferences, and your routine, to achieve your goals.
